Mason Jar Snow Globes DIY

Hey guuuuuyssss!! I hope you all enjoyed Package Pals! It was super fun! I am so happy to have worked with all of those girls! If you would like to view all of the package pal posts you can find them HERE. :) I promise I'll announce when the next round will be- SOON! If you already know you'd like to participate you can email me at packagepals(at)gmail(dot)com!

Oh! And if you're interested in sponsoring Gentri Lee for the month of December- email me at gentrileeblog(at)gmail(dot)com. You can find all of my sponsor info HERE. :)

Today I'm going to show you all how to make your very own snow globe! Hooray! I've always loved snow globes and thought it'd be fun to make my own. :) This took LOTS of trial and error. But I finally did it! Here we go...
Photobucket

First you'll need:
Mason Jars
Liquid Glycerin (this helps the snow fall slower)
Distilled Water
Fake Snow
Hot Glue
Your Choice of Figures
Optional- I found rocks (in the pet section at wal-mart. I figured they'd be nicer than ones from the yard) so that my figures would stand taller.

All of these things can be found at your local grocery store. (I did have to go to Hobby Lobby for the trees. But I'm sure as it gets closer to Christmas they'll be easier to find)

Step One- Hot glue your scene to the bottom of the Mason Jar lid and let it dry.
Be sure to fit your scene on the inside of the rim. It won't fit otherwise. Also be sure to measure the height of your scene to fit in the jars you've selected.
I decided to go with a woodland animal theme. I love them. :)
Photobucket

Step Two- Place one to two tablespoons of snow and a dash of liquid glycerin in the bottom of the Mason Jar.

Step Three- Fill the Mason Jar with the distilled water. You'll want it pretty full but remember that your scene will take up space as well.

Step Four- Place the lid (with the scene) onto the mason jar and screw the lid on TIGHTLY.

then
ENJOY!

*NOTE* the snow may float at first. But the longer it sits in the water the more it will sink to the bottom.:)

Pictures of the Week

Photobucket

1. The necklace/ headband I did for THIS guest post
2. A fox print shirt I wore today- foxes are my favorite remember? (and lions)
3. The BEST cupcake in the world. I don't care how good you think your neighborhood cupcake shop is. This is better.
4. The animal cracker that we can't identify. What animal do you think it is??? Your opinion matters greatly. Oh, and it's not a cat, bear, or lion. There are others that are clearly those.
5. Little boy rue asleep on my computer desk while I work. Aw!

Animal Crackers

Remember that "big" bag of animal crackers I mentioned the other day? Well I guess a more appropriate term would be "giant".  I literally have been living off of these. (remember? I'm not spending money on food since I leave soon?)

And so has our cat...

Just kidding. I stopped Rue before HE (remember- she's actually a he) did any damage.

I know, odd post. But I just wanted to say that you guys should all hop over to Autumn's blog and check out my guest post! Yay!

The Craft Room- Pt. 2

whew. It was hard keeping up that terrible post from yesterday. But you guys were all so kind about it! I know it was bad... it's ok to agree. hahaha!

I wish these pictures were better, they just don't do the room justice. The lighting in this room just isn't great. You'll get the idea though. :)

Presenting! The new and improved Craft Room!

I know! You can hardly recognize the place! That is the red parasol and mint green wall that were my inspiration.

Here's little Rue Helping us out. Aw. :) Notice how we reupholstered those computer chairs?? So great! I felt like superwoman after. There will be a tutorial on how to do that tomorrow on a friends blog.

There's the computer desk. Once ugly brown laminate- now beautiful, coral and fresh! (and yes, that is our ooooold TV)

That shelf will be hung on that wall (if my mom decides she wants it there of course). I didn't hang it because I don't trust myself with that big of a job...

This photo is the worst. It does not in any way do this sewing table justice. I got this at the DI (utah's goodwill) for pretty cheap and was so excited to replace my mom's old, ugly, cheap, sewing table!

If you need to be reminded of the terrible state this room was in before, just click HERE.

If you like that zebra rug in the corner you can click HERE for my tutorial on how to make your own!

I know the room is super colorful and almost doesn't seem like it works. But trust me, you have to see it in person to get the full affect. It's amazing, if I do say so myself. Haha! Plus, now everything has a place and it's way more organized! Hooray! :D

I had so much help from both my sisters and my grandma. Along with super supportive friends. :) I couldn't have done it without them!

The Craft Room- Pt. 1

Ok... SO it is taking A LOT of bravery for me to do this post. Why? Because the "before" state of my family's craft room is... Horrific. PLEASE do not let this be a judgement to you on how we live. Our family's home is actually really cute and clean. Except for in the craft room... Hence why I decided the perfect gift for my mom's birthday would be a new beautiful and clutter free craft room. But first, you must see the state it was in... before...

Here we go... I'm just going to let the pictures do the talking.

aaaaaaaaaaah!!!

Wow.

Did you make it out alive?

How many times did you pass out?

I'm sure you can see why something HAD to be done.

I was the only soul brave enough to tackle this job.

So I started searching for inspiration. I didn't want to spend a lot, so I decided to use the Mint Green paint I had left over from another project, and I also had a red parasol I wanted to use. There I had it, my base. Mint Green and Red. The search was on.

Not only did I want to paint a wall, this room needed a lot more TLC than that. I decided I would recover the computer chairs, buy a new (to us) sewing desk, paint the LAMINATE computer desk (everywhere says don't do it- I say DO IT!), and find a place for EVERTYTHING! Plus get rid of as much as possible.

I found some pictures online that I loved, printed them off, and taped them up on the wall so I could turn to them whenever I needed motivation.

So there you go. With my mom spending a week (which turned into two- thank goodness) in Arizona, operation "Craft Room" was now a go.

PLEEEEASE stay tuned for the reveal tomorrow! It will KNOCK YOUR SOCKS OFF! You would have never thought that room could be saved. Well folks, I am a miracle worker. haha! Jk. But it really truly is an amazing difference.

P.S. Go check out my guest post over at Kaitlyn's blog "isavirtue" to get a sneak peek (with crappy photos... sorry) of the final product!! :D

P.P.S. Yes we have ancient electronic devices. Psh. They work.

I'm baaaaack!

You know you're a blogger when:
-you go throughout your day and think "I should blog that!" (even when you're on a posting break)
-You're more daring in your fashion choices
-You put things together (fabrics, color choices, etc) and those around you say "I don't think that's gonna work" but they're quickly corrected and even amazed (I knew it would work)

That was kind of how my week without blogging went. I spent my days thinking about what I could blog about and being daring in my color choices. Love it.

I feel like I have so much to tell you! A week is a long time in this little blogging world! Remember that project I was working on?? Wellllll IT'S DONE! When I realized that tonight I quickly ran down to the computer to blog. Mmmmmmmmm I am home... hahaha!

What is this amazing project you ask? Well, that's just it... I can't tell you yet! Haha! I spent the last two weeks working on my mom's birthday present! She went down to Pheonix to visit my dad (who is working there) and while she was out, I had some fun. :) She gets home Saturday though! So expect the reveal then! Woot woot!

I was also randomly asked to be two lovely ladies photographer over the weekend!
(disclaimer: I am NOT a professional. I only have a point and shoot, I've never been trained, and no photoshop. SO if you are a professional or a professional critic... be nice)
But I do LOVE taking pictures, so I quickly said yes! And these I CAN reveal to you. :)

So there you go. I am back! I know your life was incomplete without my posts. :) Aw! I just love you guys!!!

OH!! And a BIG Thank You to my first 2 "Bloggers of the Week"! They are amazing and I'm so glad they were able to step in while I was out.

Missed their posts? Check them out HERE and HERE.

Knock Off and Hair Post #2!

First- don't judge me for the toothpaste mirror splatters... it's Sunday.

Today for church I did my hair in another but totally different type of braid. (Hope you like braids because I LIVE for them!) Instead of your typical single braid I added small side braids on both sides of my head secured them w elastics then braided them with the rest of my hair. Simple, easy but different. :)

Also, like my pearl tie? THANKS! I made it myself. But I didn't come up with it. Betsey Johnson did... ahem. But hers was $100 and I just couldn't ever spend that much on something that I could (and did) easily make. Granted hers is probably much better quality and has charms all over it but I'm planning on adding the charms later (when I get some) and using stuff I already had over spending $100 is so worth it to me.
If you need a reminder of why I keep posting pics of my hair go HERE. :)

Christmas Gifts

I promised I'd show you what I made my family and a couple close friends for Christmas, and now I will. :) (Chablis, if you want to be suprised... don't read this post!)

First for a couple close friends I made these rosebud earings (Sorry it's blurry. My camera would NOT focus)...

as well as this antiqued rosebud and pearl necklace.

For my mom, sister Chablis, aunt and grandma I made this version of the necklace as well as made your average gloves into something cute that they can wear anywhere! Did I take a picture? No... Sorry.

For my sister McKenna, nieces, and cousin I made these necklaces. The chain can be cut down so it can either be a pendant or turned into a keychain.

I made them on wooden circles so I modge podged the back with a fun paper. In the background you can see the rosebud earings I made each of them to match their necklace.
There you go. :) Pretty sure that's it. See, not too exciting, but still fun. Hope you had a great Christmas. Get ready for the New Year!! Hope you all join me on my challenges!!

Yay For The New Year

I think I've mentioned this before, but I hate new years. I always have. That said, I believe this year may be different. For the first time I am excited about it! Whaaaaaaaaaaaat you ask? Well that question comes with an exciting (for me) answer.

This next year (all 365 days) I will be experiencing something NEW every day. Each month will have a theme, but you don't get to know that theme until right before! Ooooo! I know. I have to hold your attention some how! But you should be VERY excited. I've got most of the year already mapped out- and let me tell you, it's going to be a BLAST! Challenging- absolutely. But FUN, CRAZY, and a GROWING EXPERIENCE? Again, ABSOLUTELY!

What was that? How did I come up with this you ask? Well that's a great question.

Last week I was enjoying a fashion magazine and there was an article in there about someone who worked for the mag wore her hair the same way every day. She was challenged to do it differently for 21 days. They then gave you a run down of all her different styles. Well, lets just say that I love playing with hair and already have so many hairstyles that I thought I could also do this challenge. Then it just sort of took off from there!

So starting Saturday January, 1st 2011 I will be doing... (Ready? You get the first month reveal today! Lucky!) A DIFFERENT HAIRSTYLE EVERY DAY! That's 31 different hairstyles!! I can't repeat, and I will be posting about it every day with pictures and if requested- tutorials.

So, Hooray for 2011! Feel free to join me on these challenges! Just think of how much we'll learn!! It's so exciting!

Powder Room Makeover *Reveal*!

Oh my! Are you SO ready to see my bathroom??? :D I know you are! If you have forgotten the sad state it was in before you can see it HERE and the beginning stages of the makeover HERE. Now, before we reveal, I must show you some of the process...

First we painted the back of the bathroom (reveal coming in a sec.), then we painted the first color of the front of the bathroom (you can't really tell what it looks like in these first pics because I had to edit it so you could see the pencil lines better). Then, using my (suprisingly) FANTASTIC math skills ;) I measured out the wall and drew all the PERFECTLY straight lines we needed. I had to ask my mom to do the top ones... I'm a bit short if you didn't know already... even with the stool! Haha!

See?? Perfect rectangles.

Then I had to draw these PERFECT diagonal lines. Not easy. If you can't tell already, I'm really proud of myself. Haha!

Then we had to tape off all of the diamonds along the INSIDE of the lines of the diamonds that were STAYING the lighter color. Then you paint the ones that will NOT be staying that color with another coat of the first color to seal the tape so no bleeding happens. (this is how we got the perfect stripes in my room. You can find that post HERE) After it dries you can paint the new color. Be careful not to get it in the other diamonds.

Want to see how it turned out?! Eeeeeeeeeeep!!!

*TRUMPETS* DA DA DA DAAAAAAAAA!!!!

My royal bathroom!!! Perfect diamonds!! Oh I love them. :)

I wish I could get the color a bit closer to reality. It's really more of a gold than that yellow tan. But you get the idea right??

Here's a view of the side by the door...

And the side closer to the back of the bathroom...

A closer look... I LOVE that mirror. We got everything (all the accesories) at Hobby Lobby! Love that store.

A closer look of the other side. I'm also in love with that box on the wall. Sigh. Haha!

Ready for the back of the bathroom??

Ta-Da!

Mint Green and ruffles! Love. :)

My new pretty towel hooks...

My newely painted shelf! Used to be white. I like it better this way.

A close up of the light and outlet fixtures...

My shower curtain! It took forever and a day to find this thing. We almost just made one.

And...

My new floor!! Yay!! Sooooooo much better than that half carpet half tile it was before!

A closer look...

Well there you have it!! You may have noticed the cabinents are the same. Eventually (never??) we'll get around to just redoing them entirely. Hence the old hardware. Oh well. :) As always, the pictures aren't near as good as the real thing. Guess you'll just have to see it in person! Haha!
