Thrifty Stocking Stuffer: Vintage Buttons

And keeping with the button theme! You can often find vintage buttons for cheap at thrift stores.
When tied up with ribbon, they make such cute stocking stuffers. I can't sew for toffee but this is still the sort of thing I'd love to receive as buttons have a hundred uses. They're great for crafts, erm, sewing onto clothes, plus they just look cute in a jar.

This is a GREAT deal considering you get both the fun cover and the insert. Thrifty Christmas Prezzie Idea: Jar of Buttons

I'm definitely one of those people for whom giving is the fun part of Christmas! I love finding the perfect prezzie for someone. This year however, my family and I are giving the gift of presence rather than presents. Last year they suggested that and I was like, 'Lame! Presents are awesome!' but owing to my skinty state this year, presence it is! Here's a cheap and cheerful idea I assembled for a certain friend - I'm sure you can all guess who this is for! I think glass jars are great because they're practical and can be used forever, and jars of things are well, always just plain fun! I decorated mine with some ribbon, a playing card and a Scrabble letter. A few more thrifty gift ideas to follow soon. x

PS: Thanks for your comments yesterday! I think a few of you may have been a bit horrified at me dismantling a board game. Never fear - I am anti-board game cruelty! Just used that old set as it had pieces missing and it was a bit poked but I am framing and cherishing the surviving street cards.

DIY: Monopoly Tags

My folks gave me their old Monopoly set a while ago and I've been dying to do something crafty with it. I was flicking through the Chance and Community Chest cards and I thought, hey I could attach some Monopoly money to these and turn 'em into fun gift tags. Some of the cards feature really cute wording as you'll see below. I'm giving Tracy R10 to go with a 'Drunken' fine for her hens party soon! The tags are also great for attaching rings and hair clips to - I've seen that on alot of crafty blogs and it always looks super cute.  I'm saving the Street cards to frame but those would also work a treat for tags. You can often find old board games at Thrift Stores. Hope you enjoyed this little DIY!

Blogger of the Week: Redhead Memories

Hey guys! Today we have the guest post from this weeks "Blog of the Week": Kaycie from her blog "Redhead Memories"! Funny story- Kaycie and I actually grew up in the same neighborhood! Crazy right? So I've known and loved her for a long time and know that you will love her just as much as I do! Take it away Kaycie!

***

Hello friends! I’m Kaycie and I blog over at Redhead Memories. As you may have guessed, I’m a natural ginger and I love making memories. I love looking through old scrapbooks and laughing at good times. I also have a terrible memory, which makes things pretty ironic and funny.

I live with my husband, Scott and kitty Anya in Nevada where we do fun things like work, pay bills, and eat cookies. My blog is all about documenting my silly life and looking for the good in every day. Sometimes I even throw in a craft or recipe or two!

I’m a dabbler. I like to take pictures, but I’m by no means a professional. I love thrifting vintage and non-vintage things, but sometimes I buy things at full price. I love to cook, but sometimes I make complete disasters.

I hope you’ll come stop by to see my successes and sometimes, even failures. Thank you so much for having me, Gentri!
-Kaycie

Foot Care Images Reviews

Diseases, disorders and disabilities of the foot or ankle affect the quality of life and mobility of millions of Americans. However, the general public and even many physicians are unaware of the important relationship between foot health and overall health and well-being. With this in mind, the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA) would like to [...]
Foot Care

Oatmeal foot scrub
1/3 cup oatmeal or 1 packet instant oatmeal
3 tablespoons olive oil
Mix ingredients in a bowl. Massage into feet for 5 minutes.

Brown sugar foot scrub
3 tablespoons brown sugar
1 tablespoon honey
1 teaspoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
1 teaspoon almond (or olive) oil.
Mix all the ingredients until it resembles a paste. Use circular motion and massage gently. Rinse off with warm water.

Salt foot scrub
1 cup of sea salt
1/2 cup of cold water
2 drops of lavender essential oil
Gradually add water to salt and lavender oil. As you are adding it, you want to make sure the mix starts looking like a paste. Rub your feet and soles in circular motion. Rinse well.

Lavender herbal foot soak
5 litres of warm water
2 drops of lavender essential oil
1/4 cup of sea salt
Soak your feet for 10-15 minutes.

Overnight foot mask
4 teaspoons of almond oil or olive oil
2 teaspoons of cocoa butter
2 tablespoons honey
4 vitamin E capsules
Mix all the ingredients together in a small bowl and work the mask into you feet. Step into cotton socks, and leave on overnight. The next morning, remove the socks and rinse feet in lukewarm water.

Deodorizing foot powder
1 tablespoon of baking soda
2-10 drops of your favorite essential oil
Mix baking soda and oil in a plastic bag, shake well. Break up any clumps that may have formed. Dust feet regularly with the powder and add a teaspoon in the shoes overnight. Baking soda acts as an antibacterial agent preventing excessive perspiration. It kills the existing bacteria and prevents any possible infectionDiabetic patients are prone to foot infections. Healing is affected by changes in extremities of blood vessels and decreased circulation. Gangrene development, infection of cuts and sores is common. Often, the limb has to be amputated.

So here are some of the common precautions that can be followed for better feet health:

Use a mirror to monitor daily feet infections. Feet have to be inspected daily for redness, blisters, cuts, cracks, swelling and color changes.
Wear correct fitting socks and shoes with enough room to wiggle the toes. Check the shoes for presence of foreign objects like gravel that can cause sores.
Wash and dry feet and inspect the region between toes on a daily basis.
Trim your nails after a bath, cut them straight across and then smoothen the edges using an emery board.
Self-treatment of corns, calluses and ingrown toenails should not be done. Always consult a podiatrist.
In case of dry skin, apply cream and petroleum jelly to feet and heels avoiding the region between toes. Leaving cream on the cervices can cause waterlogging making the skin more susceptible to infections.
Sitting postures that cross the legs limits circulation.
Diabetes can cause neuropathy wherein we become unaware of heat in waters leading to burns. Do not use heating pads or hot water bottles. Maintain water baths at 85-90 F or 30-32 C. Prolonged exposure to cold decreases blood circulation.
Improve the decreased blood circulation by following a regular exercise routine prescribed by the health care professional.
Practice preventive care, be observant and follow up on any possible signs with a suitable physician. Get your feet assessed by your healthcare professional during every visit.
